| When I started thinking about how
I wanted to illustrate Watershed's 10th year anniversary, it didn't take
long for my mind to settle on doing something around our logo - the "W".
I thought what better image to play around with than an image that has been
with us right from the start, which is saying a lot considering we are community
that flows in and out of images like ... water. For whatever reason the
"W" has stuck with us regardless of the changes we go through
and so to honour it's loyalty I decided to focus my imagination on this
very simple form. Simplicity can be beautiful to the eyes in a clear and
pristine sort of way and from my experience with the "W" this
was definitely the case. The simple flowing form surprisingly gave me a
lot of room to fill it with colour and nuance - I enjoyed the distinction
that was created between the bottom and top. I began to see that, like the
breaking we went through as a community way back, the foundation of the
"W" carries with it cracks and rubble, somehow still beautiful
because the colour and flow that emerges reminds me of new life. And of
course, in keeping with the spirit we've been graced with, the new that
come out of the old feels like water-life, splashing up from the depths. |
